Brighton father awaits news of saving an ailing woman

A 32-year-old man is waiting for news about him saving a stranger's life.

Dave Newman donated vital bone marrow to a woman who was had serious complications. Newman is recovering at home in Brighton.

When the young man realized that he can sign up as a bone marrow donor, police officer Newman was already regularly giving blood.

He kept donating blood and thought that this was it, but received a text message stating that he must get in contact with a particular person.

He was informed that he was a bone marrow match for the lady and would he be interested to help.

Microsoft confirms ‘zero day’ vulnerability in IE8

Computerworld revealed in a Saturday, May 4, report that software giant Microsoft has confirmed that a' zero-day' vulnerability - CVE-2013-1347 - exists in its most popular Internet Explorer version, Internet Explorer 8
(IE8), and has promised to release a patch to fix the mentioned vulnerability.

Survey states, quarter of adults walk just an hour a week

It has been concluded in a poll that every week about 25 per cent of adult walks just about an hour. A poll was conducted for the Ramblers.

About 2000 adults were polled by the YouGov survey, in which it was seen that when they walked, they did so for less than two hours per week.

According to government guidelines, every week, adults should indulge in physical activity for about 150 minutes.

People in the survey were questioned about the total walking they did and this included school trips, walking to work or shops.

NHS neglect contributed to Ridd’s death

A coroner has ruled that due to natural causes contributed by sheer neglect, a man with severe learning difficulties has died at Swansea hospital.

It was heard by an inquest in the city that the care delivered to Paul Ridd's at Morriston Hospital was below the expected standard.

In January 2009, following an operation on bowel, 53-year-old Ridd had died near Port Talbot. He was from Baglan.

The inquest heard that Ridd could not survive as he was drawbacks in care did not deliver him the chances of surviving.

Citrix adds instant messaging to its Podio social collaboration platform

With the view to facilitate employees in sending and receiving one-to-one as well as group text chats while working together on tasks and projects, Citrix has enhanced its Podio social collaboration platform with the recent addition of instant messaging.

The Podio Chat feature which Citrix launched on Thursday will essentially bring on real-time collaboration to the Podio platform for the first time; with video chat functionality also to be introduced soon.

Intel releases details on next-gen graphics chips to be integrated into Haswell processors

With Intel's fourth-generation Core processors code-named Haswell - for laptops, desktops, and hybrids - scheduled to be released in June at the Computex event, the chip giant Wednesday released details on the next-generation graphics chips coming aboard the Haswell-powered devices.

About the forthcoming graphics chips for laptops, hybrids, and desktops, Intel said in its Wednesday statement that Iris graphics will be integrated into Haswell processors; and will unfold an "eye-popping visual experience -- no extra graphics card required."

Parents of 330 kids die of drug abuse every year

A new report on substance abuse in Scotland has stated that many children get to lose a parent due to drug abuse every year.

In 2011, drugs took away parent or a parental figure from 331 children. The earlier figure was 238 and this shows a sharp incline. About 50 per cent of drug related deaths happened due to Heroin substitute methadone in Scotland.

These reports reflect a reduced life expectancy of addicts who resorted to heroin in the 1980s.

Heroine addicts are prescribed methadone to get off Heroine. But Methadone has been the reason for several deaths.

Samsung, Intel, Telefónica invest in speech analysis startup Expert Labs

An IDC News report has revealed that Samsung, Intel, and Telefonica have invested in San Francisco-based startup Expect Labs which specializes in speech analysis. The startup, headed by CEO Timothy Tuttle, currently has 12 employees; and has already received $2.4 million in funding from existing investors, which include Google, Greylock Partners, and Bessemer Ventures, among others.

Bloomberg: Microsoft’s Azure revenue surpassed ‘$1 billion’ over the past year

According to a Bloomberg report, the revenue which Microsoft earned from its Azure cloud infrastructure services surpassed the $1-billion mark, for the first time, in the last one year; with the past six months having witnessed a 48 percent increase in Azure subscriptions.

Health meeting to address public questions

A public meeting is being held by the Governing Body of the Eastbourne, Hailsham and Seaford Clinical Commissioning Group, CCG, in Seaford.

The meeting is being planned on May 8 at about 12.30pm at St Leonard's Church hall, Church Street.

On April 1, GPs in 22 practices, had gathered at the Eastbourne, Hailsham and Seaford Clinical CCG. The aim of getting together was purchasing health services for about 180,000 people with a budget of £231 million.
