According to a recent report in The Korea Herald, the global dominance of the Apple iPad over its Android-based rivals still continues; and the Apple tablet is so much in demand that it clearly surpasses the demand of competing tablets, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab, even in South Korea, which is Samsung’s domestic market!
Going by the Korea Herald report, it has been estimated that the Korea sales of the iPad – which was released in the country in November 2010 – have already touched more than one million units; a figure which is far higher than the sales numbers of the Galaxy Tab.
While Apple is estimated to have sold approximately 700,000 units of the iPad 2 in 2011 alone, industry sources opine that the figure could be much higher because the tablet had already been purchased by many consumers via unmonitored channels before its April 29 official release.
Despite the fact that Apple’s local competitor in Korea, Samsung, refrains from disclosing the sales figures for its devices, it is believed that the iPad’s market share in the country is apparently in the range of between 70 and 80 percent.
Incidentally, the iPad is not the first Apple device to have outperformed its rival Samsung product in Samsung’s home market --- the iPhone has accomplished a similar feat too; with the figures showing that the 200,000 pre-orders of the iPhone 4S in Korea in November 2011 was notably higher than the 120,000 units of the Samsung Galaxy S II handset sold in the first three days after launch!
