Leaving smoking can save pounds for you

Financial impacts of smoking are often underestimated by 50 per cent of smokers when it comes to saving some money, the Department of Health said.

The yearly cost of smoking is £1,800 on average if 20 cigarettes are lit every day. The cost of a pack that contains about 20 of them costs £6.59 and this means that it is being underestimated by more than £600.

Not only can you save money by leaving smoking, even your life insurance premiums will be less as well as the cost of other financial products will also be less.

Smokers are put at a higher risk and they end up paying more premiums as compared to non-smokers. You have to leave smoking for an entire year for being classed as a non-smoker.

There is a varied difference between premiums that a smoker gives and premiums given by a non-smoker.

Public Health Minister Anne Milton said, “Quitting smoking is the very best thing you can do to improve your health this New Year. What's clear is that the majority of smokers want to quit smoking and free NHS help is available to help them quit for good.”
