Potentially deadly E. coli bug spreads in Germany

A minimum of 140 people in Germany got sick yesterday evening following getting infected by a life-threatening form of bacteria – E. coli.

A couple of persons in Frankfurt got put on the artificial respiration machines amidst a rise in the number of cases of Enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) being reported all over the country.

Over 40 of the confirmed cases were declared to be in a critical condition. This may result in kidney failure.

The symptoms of the illness are stomach cramps, diarrhea and it might even result in anemia.

About 10 persons got admitted to Frankfurt hospital having the illness. Out of these patients, about 4 of them have been reported to be in intensive care.

Besides the 40 persons being treated in Hamburg, cases have also surfaced in Bremen, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia as well as in Schleswig Holstein.

Around 8 patients from Dusseldorf have been reported to be critically sick by the regional health officials.

According to authorities, besides the confirmed cases, over 160 persons all over the nation are under examination for the bacterium.

It is being thought that the outbreak has been spread via contaminated vegetables. It is however unusual that it affected especially adults.
